Meredith College Rankings: In 2005, Meredith College was recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a Best College (ranked 16th among 135 other colleges in the southern region). The College was also included on a U.S. News listing of Great Schools at Great Prices, and cited for having the sixth highest graduation rates among master's universities in the southern United States.
Meredith received Top 10 recognition in three categories in the U.S. News and World Report 2002 America's Best Colleges rankings: Best University, Best Value, and Least Debt among master's universities in the South. Meredith has consistently ranked among the Best Regional Universities of the South since 1997.
In the Best Value category, Meredith tied for 4th among the master's universities in the South. Academic quality, net cost of attendance, and the average level of financial aid were among the factors considered in ranking the colleges and universities that offer students the best value. Other rankings also recognized Meredith as one of the five master's universities in the South whose 2000 graduates carried the lightest debt loads.
Campus Profile: Meredith is the largest private, four-year college for women in the Southeast United States, yet its size has not reached the unwieldy proportions that characterize many larger public and private colleges and universities. Meredith maintains a strong sense of close personal community, while at the same time offering students a wealth of enriching opportunities. Meredith is recognized for its excellent academic programs, yet the cost of attending is among the most moderate in the state of North Carolina.
The College, founded in 1891, emphasizes the liberal arts. Total enrollment numbers approximately 2,100 students from 33 U.S. states and 22 countries. Special programs include study abroad throughout the world, internships and cooperative education, undergraduate research opportunities, pre-professional programs and teacher education. Location: Meredith College is located on a 225-acre campus in North Carolina's capital city of Raleigh, near Research Triangle Park. Facilities include an amphitheater on lake site, seven residence halls, newly-built $20 million Science and Mathematics Building, library, art galleries, research greenhouse, computer labs, learning center, concert halls, indoor pool, theater, auditorium, tennis courts, fitness center and soccer field. There's a campus-wide network with e-mail, internet access and the Library Computer System. Meredith participates in NCAA Division III athletics.
Raleigh, together with nearby cities of Durham and Chapel Hill, is known as The Triangle. This particular area of North Carolina was recently named the Number One Best Place to Live in America by Money magazine. The Triangle is home to major universities, historic sites, clubs, restaurants, professional sports teams, cultural attractions and much more. With more than 90,000 other college students who attend one of the area's nine campuses, there's always something fun to do! Although Meredith's 15,000 living alumnae have gone global (residing in 23 foreign countries and 46 U.S. states), 4,400 of them have opted to remain in the Triangle area.
Accreditation and Degrees: Meredith is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Music, Master of Business Administration, Master of Education, Master of Health Administration, Master of Music and Master of Science in Nutrition.
Costs and Financial Assistance: Tuition and fees are approximately $21,150; accommodations, meals, personal and other expenses average about $9,530, which makes the total cost for a full-time student living on campus about $30,680.
Financial aid resources for international students are limited in both type and amount at Meredith. The student and her family should be prepared to assume the primary responsibility for financing her education.
