This challenging English as a Second Language program is useful to working professionals and to students preparing for university study or professional programs. Students from more than 40 countries have attended the ESL program at Rice, located in Houston, Texas.
Intensive English Program Tuition and Fees: All new students pay $1,480 for their first session: $1,420 tuition plus the $60 non-refundable testing and registration fee. A deposit of $500 must accompany the application. The balance of tuition must be paid no later than the first day of class. Discounts and a limited number of partial scholarships are available for re-enrolling students.
Student Activities: The Rice University Intensive English Program realizes you need a healthy balance between studying and having fun. Our students enjoy getting together after class to participate in program-sponsored social activities, such as the Karaoke party, the picnic at Hermann Park, or the barbecue luncheon with a real Texas cowboy. On the weekend or during your break between sessions, you may want to take a day trip to the exciting attractions that are within a short drive from Houston.
Rice University offers these classes for those who wish to improve their everyday English communication skills or enhance their command of English for professional purposes. These classes are non-credit and are designed for those who do not wish to enroll in a full course of study. Those wishing to study in an I-20 granting program should consult the Intensive English Program.
Special-topic courses such as TOEFL preparation, pronunciation, business or academic writing, conversation and American social customs, and oral presentation skills are offered in selected sessions.
Individually designed courses in intensive English for special professional or corporate needs are available either on site or on the Rice University campus. In consultation with the client, the program's professional staff will design a course of study that integrates English language development, cross-cultural orientation, and business- or profession-specific content. The course schedule and fees will vary according to the client's needs.
